CCFiberTV Service Announcement

CCFiberTV Will Be Discontinued on June 30, 2023

Dear CCFiberTV Subscriber, We want to remind you that on June 30, 2023, we will discontinue CCFiberTV service. This means that on June 30th, your access to our TV service will cease. Please note that the decision to discontinue our TV service does not affect your internet service or phone service offered by Cumberland Connect.

Our goal has been to allow ample time for our TV subscribers to find an alternative TV solution and to be helpful in this transition by offering information and helpful resources to assist you in making this decision. We realize that the streaming options in our previous letters and discussed in our Streaming Workshops may not be the best fit for all our TV subscribers.

Dear Member,

As the broadband subsidiary of CEMC, a member-owned cooperative, we believe in transparent communication with our members regarding when significant changes happen in their cooperative and why. Our Cumberland Connect team will always strive to keep our subscribers informed of any significant changes that may impact your CCFiber services.

We want to make you aware of the recent changes with our video service, CCFiberTV. Since the launch of our fiber project in 2020, our ultimate goal has been to provide the best quality broadband services to our members at affordable prices.

We initially chose to offer CCFiberTV to allow our members the option to bundle multiple services for convenience and have since worked to keep package costs as low as possible. Recent changes in the TV industry are making it extremely difficult for small, member-owned cooperatives like Cumberland Connect to continue offering video services at reasonable rates.

We do not enjoy raising members’ bills and do everything we can to negotiate fair rates from content providers and technology partners. However, rising TV industry costs continue working against our best efforts to keep our package costs from increasing. In addition to consistently rising fees from networks for the right to air their content, the TV industry has been undergoing changes with the technology used to deliver programming to subscribers.

Aside from impending price increases, we strongly feel that CCFiberTV has fallen short of our standard for subscriber experience. After continuously working with our content and equipment providers to improve CCFiberTV functionality, we have not seen sufficient improvement in the service being delivered to our CCFiberTV subscribers. Ongoing issues with video equipment and overall functionality have resulted in a subpar service, which is not something we are comfortable providing our members. Our team feels that due to these issues beyond our control, it is time to reevaluate the future of our CCFiberTV service.

Therefore, as of 09/01/2022, Cumberland Connect has decided to pause any new CCFiberTV sign-ups and will reevaluate the future of CCFiberTV.

Please note that despite this change, our team will continue supporting your existing CCFiberTV service for the foreseeable future. We will also gladly provide guidance, resources, and support to any subscribers that choose to explore alternative TV solutions during this time.

Internet & Phone services are not impacted in any way by this announcement. Ongoing fiber construction and projected timelines are not impacted in any way by this announcement.

We understand this is not the news our members would prefer to hear, but we do not like being forced to raise monthly rates or offer our members a subpar service. Our goal is not to keep our members from their favorite programs, but to be sure we are providing access to the best, most budget-friendly way to enjoy them.

In better news, subscribers have more choices than ever to customize their entertainment experience with an abundance of video solutions in the market today that cater to multiple preferences. Streaming video solutions often come with a monthly price much lower than our CCFiberTV package prices or other traditional TV options. In fact, Kantar, a major analytics company in the technology industry reported on their Entertainment on Demand panel of Q4 2021: around 85% of US households have a video subscription service such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video or HBO Max.

We recognize that this announcement might generate questions about alternate video solutions, and we are committed to providing our members with as much guidance as possible. Our team will conduct on-site workshops/tutorials at various locations to help members become familiar with streaming video solutions, including different streaming platforms and equipment.

The first of these tutorials will be held at the following locations:

  • • Stewart County Public Library (102 Natcor Dr, Dover) on September 19th anytime between 12pm – 6pm
  • • White House Chamber of Commerce (412 TN-76, White House) on September 26th anytime between 9am – 4pm
  • • Cheatham County Public Library (188 John Mayfield Dr Suite 200, Ashland City) on September 29th anytime between 9am – 6pm

  • • Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library (350 Pageant Ln #501, Clarksville) on October 6th anytime between 9am – 5:30pm

We hope you can join our team during these workshops for an opportunity to get hands-on with streaming equipment, see demonstrations of the features and offerings of various popular streaming TV solutions, and have any questions you have answered by our team.
