Portland Public Wi-Fi Ribbon Cutting

Cumberland Connect Powers Public Wi-Fi in Portland

Residents and visitors in Portland now have even more ways to stay connected. Free public Wi-Fi is now available at Meadowbrook Park and along Main Street, thanks to a partnership between Cumberland Connect, the City of Portland, and Sumner County Government.

The project was made possible through a Broadband Ready Communities grant from the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD) and was officially launched during a ribbon-cutting event, in partnership with the Portland Chamber of Commerce, held on October 8.

“Reliable internet access is essential for residents, visitors, and businesses alike,” said CEMC General Manager Chris A. Davis. “This investment in public Wi-Fi represents an important step toward greater digital inclusion in our community.”

The new public Wi-Fi network provides secure, high-speed coverage throughout Meadowbrook Park and the Main Street corridor, allowing park visitors and downtown guests to stay connected while enjoying local businesses and community spaces. In addition to improving convenience and connectivity, the project also supports economic growth and digital literacy in the region.

In partnership with the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT), Sumner County will also offer digital literacy training to help residents develop the essential online skills needed to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

Cumberland Connect is proud to play a role in bringing reliable broadband access to more corners of the communities we serve, whether that means connecting homes and businesses or powering local public spaces.
