Starting back in 2024, the FCC now requires ISPs to provide these labels clearly, so customers don’t get stuck with surprise fees or misleading pricing.

Here’s what to look for when reading broadband labels:

1. Teaser Rates
The price looks great—until month 13 hits. Some plans jump in price after the intro period ends.

Look for: “Promotional rate” vs. “Standard rate”.

2. Equipment Fees
Some providers charge an extra monthly fee just to rent their router or modem.

Look for: Monthly equipment or modem fees.

3. Installation Fees
You sign up thinking installation is included—but some plans have an installation charge that isn’t advertised.
